Pursue Peace?
May 7, 2009
Oh the humanity! I love people. We come in different shapes, sizes and colors. We have different values based upon many different factors. We have cultural humor and food preferences. People are so very interesting. So why should it be (thank you Depeche Mode) that you and I should get along so awefully? Humanity is generally self absorbed.
I am so selfish and I would wager to say that you just might be too. Think about that situation (or situations) that happened yesterday, you know the one where you were really selfish. See what I mean? We are prone, bent and have a penchant to serve Master Me. And yes it’s wrong but it’s a struggle, a constant conflict. “Constant conflict,” I’ve heard that somewhere before. Oh yeah, in yesterday’s post.
In life there will always be conflict because we are all squarely in the middle of it. Conflict can be greater or lesser but it is always there. Think about it. You just won the lottery but now you are anticipating your least favorite relatives to hit you up for some philanthropy. You got a raise, congratulations, but now your employer expects more from you in the same amount of hours you were working before your raise. You bought a new car, now where do you park it so it doesn’t get scratched or broken into. You get the point, even in bounty we have conflict.
So how do we seek peace and pursue it? We trust, we lighten up, we prioritize what is important, we serve ourselves less, others more and we work on all of this everyday. That doesn’t sound like peace, you say? Now where did you get the idea that peace is absent from hard work? Remember the “pursue it” part, there is definitely work involved. Let’s continue this in my next post.
hey jerad- thanks for letting me know about the blog. shameless promotions can serve a purpose, and it was great reading your thoughts/insights on the “me-monster” syndrome and how to pursue peace amongst conflict. once i figure out how to subscribe i’ll read your further posts. God bless!
Hi Daniel,
I had no idea that you had your China adventure chronicled! I’m reading them now and enjoying. Me, Me, Me, that pretty much sums…well….Me up and the rest of us too. Thanks for reading!
